#snow #nosnow #fourletterword
Apparently we are in for a whopper of a snowstorm. Hopefully, prayerfully, please God let it be so, this will be the only big storm of the winter season. Here is my attempt to stay positive with some Scriptural thoughts about snow.
- Snow can remind me that the power of God is beyond my comprehension
Job 37:5-6 – God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend. For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour.
- Snow can remind me that the forgiveness of God can cleanse the worst of my sin stained heart and life
Isaiah 1:18 – “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
Psalm 51:6-7 – Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
- Snow can remind me that God’s Word, His promises, commands, exhortations, warnings and encouragements are sent to us for a reason and they will accomplish their purpose.
Isaiah 55:10–11 – “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
- Snow can remind me of the purity of God, and of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ
Daniel 7:9 – “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire.
Revelation 1:13–15 – And in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters.
- Snow can remind me of the utter helpless of myself and the rest of mankind
Job 38:22–23 – “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war?”

The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” – – John 2:13–17
This past Sunday was a difficult day for Cities Church of St. Paul Minnesota. Their Worship Service was abruptly interrupted. While congregants sought to worship their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ their sanctuary was caustically invaded by a mob of anti-ICE and pro-immigrant protestors. These activists screamed in people’s faces and traumatized families and especially children.
The aftermath of this unholy action was national attention for the protestors and a shaken-up congregation. There have been no consequences for those who violated the sacred space. No arrests of the offenders. The most anyone will say is that they have been “put on notice”.
Just eight minutes up the road (2.6 miles according to Google Maps) from the church is the Planned Parenthood St. Paul Health Clinic. If today a mob of anti-abortion and pro-life activists forced their way into the clinic, yelled at the clinic workers and harassed the patients, what would happen? We all know what would happen. The police would be there in a flash. Every single one of those protesters would be arrested. Everyone would be fully prosecuted. Civil rights charges would be filed. The Minnesota Attorney General would make them pay, because in America Abortion clinics are sacred spaces, even more than churches, and abortion is a sacrament. Troubling, isn’t it?
Follower of Jesus please don’t despair. We know what to do when a group of people try to co-opt God’s house for their own purposes. Jesus showed us in John 2:13-17 – the Scripture above. If protestors interrupt our worship of our King, if activists try to defile our sacred space, our house of prayer for all nations, we need only ask ourselves – WWJD – “What Would Jesus Do?”
At our church we are zealous for God’s House. We take the command to make disciples seriously. We’ve tried hard to disciple God’s people to be like Jesus. I am confident that our leaders and I would seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus to any group of protesters defiling God’s house.
We would use our hands to grab them by the neck, and we would use our feet to kick their sorry butts out the door.
And they better hope the police get there quickly. The women of our church are especially zealous for God’s house, and they have experience in the laying on of hands and the casting out of demons.
Blessings,
Pastor Dave Watson, Calvary Chapel
