“50 Days of Prayer at Calvary Chapel”

The men in the boat were not Jonahs out on the sea, trying vainly to sail away from God’s plan for their lives. They were not even out on the water fishing for fun or profit. They were only in the boat because they had followed Jesus there. It was Jesus who got into the boat in the first place. There is a mistaken notion that following Jesus leads to immediate prosperity and peace. Not necessarily. Certainly, the way of the cross leads to life eternal and the glories of heaven. There is a day coming when there will be no more sickness or sorrow. But in the meantime, we will experience some mean times. -Dr. Dave Earley

“Send me.” This effective prayer caused God to respond by sending Isaiah to his own people to deliver message after message of necessary and convicting warning. And God also sent Isaiah to us, as he would record his messages in what would become sixty-six chapters in the book bearing his name. Isaiah is one of the most amazing books ever written. The promises found in it, especially in chapters 40 and later, are some of my favorites. Yet, beyond the promises are the incredible prophecies. There are prophecies about Israel and her neighboring nations that came true during Isaiah’s own lifetime, as well as dozens of predictions about the Messiah seven hundred years before Jesus was born. They all came true with outlandish accuracy. Beyond that, his many eschatological prophecies give us great insight into the end times and the coming kingdom of God. “Send me” is one prayer God delights to answer – Dr. Dave Earley

“Nehemiah did not ask God to wipe out his enemies, as I might have done. He did not ask God to give this daunting responsibility to someone else, which I almost surely would have. He did not even ask for the walls to be miraculously built by legions of angels overnight, which I would at least have tried. Instead, he prayed, “Strengthen my hands.” Sometimes God prefers to do the miracle in us. ” -Dr. Dave Earley
