Scott Wesley Brown to Lead Worship at National Day of Prayer Event on Staten Island
The National Day of Prayer will be celebrated on Staten Island this coming Thursday, May 3rd at 7:30 P.M. in an event sponsored by the Staten Island Association of Evangelicals.  Gateway Church at 200 Boscombe Avenue in the Richmond Valley section of Staten Island will host this year’s event. Special guest worship leader will Scott Wesley Brown who has been in the forefront of Christian music for over 30 years. Local Pastors from the Staten Island Association of Evangelical will lead those in attendance in prayer for Staten Island, New York City, New York State and our nation. Dr. Dan Mercaldo, the President of SIAE remarked  “If any part of this Land needs healing and revival it is Staten Island. With the least percentage of believers in NYC, a booming epidemic of drug abuse, and many struggling church and ministries, we need to pray together. The National Day of Prayer gives us that unique opportunity.”
The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.
This May 3rd hundreds of Churches and tens of thousands of Christians will participate in this event. The theme this year is Unity. In that spirit Dr. Mercaldo invited local churches and Christians to participate saying “Please join us this Thursday at 7:30pm for 90 minutes of united prayer and supplication before Almighty God.”

From Streams in the Desert

And the ill-favored and lean-fleshed kine did eat up the seven well favored and fat kine . . . and the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears (Gen. 41:4, 7).

There is a warning for us in that dream, just as it stands: It is possible for the best years of our life, the best experiences, the best victories won, the best service rendered, to be swallowed up by times of failure, defeat, dishonor, uselessness in the kingdom. Some men’s lives of rare promise and rare achievement have ended so. It is awful to think of, but it is true. Yet it is never necessary.
